About the Course

Hawk's Eye is the most demanding test on the Shanty Creek property — a John Robinson design that wraps a championship layout around dramatic Antrim County ridgelines, with water in play on nine of eighteen holes.

Opened in 2004, Hawk's Eye is the youngest of Shanty Creek's championship courses and was designed specifically to complement the existing Cedar River and Legend routings. From the tips it stretches to a slope of 148 — the steepest at the resort — but generous landing areas and multiple sets of tees keep the round playable for every level of golfer.

The course is built across high, rolling terrain that opens onto long sightlines of the surrounding Northern Michigan forest. Bentgrass tees, fairways, and greens roll firm and fast, and the bunkering frames almost every approach. Putting surfaces are large, undulating, and quick — leaving the ball below the hole is the simplest path to a good score.

Hawk's Eye plays as a par 72 measuring approximately 7,094 yards from the Blue tees. The White tees we will be using during the Cup play just over 6,400 yards and present the same strategic challenges with a far more manageable second shot into most greens.

What to Expect

Water on 9 of 18

Streams, ponds, and wetlands come into play on half the round — bring extra balls and a definite plan off the tee on the par 3s.

Elevated Tee Boxes

Many holes play from elevated tee decks with full views of the landing area. Aim points are obvious, but the wind reads true at the top.

Big, Quick Greens

Bentgrass surfaces are large, contoured, and consistently fast. Three-putts are the silent killer here.

Generous Off the Tee

Despite the slope rating, fairways are wide. The challenge is club selection and discipline on the approach, not finding the short grass.

Signature Hole

No. 7 — Par 3

A short par 3 across water to a peninsula green nearly surrounded by pond. There is no bailout — anything short, left, or long is wet. Trust the yardage, swing committed, and walk off with par.
